Meeting singles in chat rooms has for me not been a successful journey. Not that I am an expert on dating or relationships, but I feel that chat sites are mostly for hooking up.
There are free online dating sites that offer chat and this presents a totally different environment for meeting people. Most people are on dating sites to meet people for dating or relationships. They are a bit more credible.
On chat sites most people are in there to meet people for strictly chatting or hookups. There are always exceptions, but I have not found them to be of a very high quality nature.
Another issue with chat rooms is that many of the people on there are trying to lure members to other sites such as web cam or porn sites. They start off talking as if they are really interested in the other member only a few minutes later to start sending links to move to another site.
Dating sites usually offer a larger variety of available singles who really want to meet. I always tell people who like to chat or instant message to do a search with those terms and select a dating site that gives them those features.
